JusJoJan – An Absurdist’s Philosophy

One philosophy that appeals to me, at times. is the philosophy of absurdism. An author that captures this philosophy is Douglas Adams.

“If there’s any real truth, it’s that the entire multidimensional infinity of the Universe is almost certainly being run by a bunch of maniacs.”

Fandango’s Flashback Friday – Appreciate a Dragon Day

For Fandango’s Flashback Friday, the following was posted on this site, on January 16, 2024.

For Appreciate a Dragon Day, here is a little snippet from a story I’ve started writing:

She soared higher and higher, using the updrafts to lift her with little effort. She tucked her wings in, diving down between tall trees, and then opened them again to catch the perfect updraft. The wind caused some of her scales to flutter against her body. She loved how her scales looked iridescent in the moonlight.

She flew toward the mountains that had caught her attention the last time she was out flying. Somewhere in that group of mountain peaks was a tiny pass that she needed to go through. She spotted a potential dip, that might be the pass she was looking for.

She gave a couple of huge flaps with her wings, then tucked them in close to her body. She flew faster than she remembered ever flying. It was exhilarating and frightening. The noise of the wind against her ears became deafening.

It has been my honor to be amongst friends that believe, and do their best to live in a way that value symbiotic relationships. These relationships extend to our four-footed friends, as well as the persons we live around, and generally are beneficial to all we include.

Fandango’s Story Starter & JusJoJan – More Inspo for NaNoWriMo

With a swift kick, the door splintered, revealing a pile of rubbish. Eliana followed Detective Sanders into the building, carefully avoiding stepping onto anything that looked wet or squishy. The smell made her nose itch. She spotted something familiar in the pile of rubbish. Detective Sanders turned toward her as she picked up a small, beaded bracelet. She twisted it around, peering at it.

Looking toward Detective Sanders, she said, “This is mine. How did it get here?” She showed the detective her name etched into the backside of the beads.

“That is curious,” acknowledged the detective. “I can take it in to the lab to check for fingerprints.”

Eliana hesitated. She didn’t really trust the detective. Yet, she sensed that if she didn’t hand the bracelet over, she’d find herself in more danger than she’s faced already. “Please be careful with this. It was gifted to me by my Grandmother. It’s the only thing I have left from her since she died.” Eliana hoped the minor lie would be enough to explain her hesitation. The detective took the bracelet and sealed it in a small plastic bag.

The two continued to explore the conglomeration of rubbish, but found nothing else of interest. Detective Sanders signaled that it was time to move on and explore the rest of the house. Eliana watched the detective, as she started for the next room. The detective was thorough, very nice on the surface, and very good at hiding her true motivations.

Eliana followed the detective into the next room, and froze. While the front room was a total mess, this room was the opposite. Neat, almost pristine. Someone was living here.

As a side note, this short scene may be added to the story started in November for NaNoWriMo.

FOWC Inspiration for NaNoWriMo Piece

Susan spoke up, “We have a proposition for you, Sarah-Olivia. We understand if you feel that making any deals with us feels precarious., and if you decline our proposition, we will not hold it against you.”

Sarah-Olivia cocked her head.

“We would like you to set your markers back out, re-staking your claim to this piece of land. In exchange, we’ll supply you with a year’s worth of coffee and chocolate.”

Sarah-Olivia questioned them, “Why would you want me to do that?”

“We are aware that having a claim on the land won’t block the development corporation’s attempt to build here, but it will slow them down. We are hoping that will give us enough time to relocate the bear, we’ve been tracking, to a safer location,” said Susan.

Bill added, “And the institute we work with agreed to represent the dowsers in the area, the nearby townspeople, and, of course, the bear’s territory, against the corporation.”

Sarah-Olivia slowly nodded, contemplating how advantageous it would be to have more time to dowse for more clean water.

This scene, which will be added to my 2025 NaNoWriMo, was inspired by Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (FOWC) – Proposition.

A Simple Painting

I have not painted for a very long time, due to many reasons (Yep, looking at you, Stormagedden, the Dark Lady of All, as one of those reasons. lol). I, finally, grabbed a canvas, opened up my paints to see which ones are still viable.

I chose to do an easy project, to start, what I hope will be my painting journey, again. It’s far from perfect, but it was fun to do. I am considering adding a background to this, thought not sure what to do.

As I stumble into and through the start of 2006, I attempt to remember to celebrate the little joys that exist in my life, and the world I live in.

Flashback Friday – Games, Friends, and HTML Add Life

For Fandango’s Flashback Friday, here is a post from January 9, 2006.

Games, Friends, and HTML Add Life

Today I joined my gaming friends at Borders for some invigorating rounds of Scategories, Taboo, and Apples to Apples. We had a couple of newcomers, another cavy slave and a co-worker looking to play something other than European Board Games.

I enjoy the company of these people and am so glad I took the risk of defying my shyness to go to one of their game days a few months ago. Joining them for games and laughter has been a real addition to my life, and the friendships that are growing from this connection are real treasures.

I’ve updated my web site this evening. It took quite a bit longer than I had imagined, mostly due to my length of time away from doing HTML. I created a new (and simple) page for BookCrossing (go take a look: Yvensong’s Corridor of Books ) and did some minor tweaks and updates to a few of the older pages. This was tiring and rewarding work…and is inspiring me to update/create some more new pages. I plan to create one or two more pages for BookCrossing and maybe a page for our local writing group. The possibilities are endless!

In case you’re curious, the little one in the picture is me at 19 days old, celebrating my first Christmas. I decided that I’d use the picture to remind me that I am starting this year with beginner’s mind. 2005, on the whole, was a pretty good year for me, though it ended with a couple of sour spots. To sweeten those spots, I intend to make a fresh start.
