Servetus …

Early 2012. That’s when I fell under the Armitage spell. It was a swift descent, landing me in and sweeping me away in a tidal wave of excitement. And oh, the availability of information and images and videos to stimulate that excitement in this glorious age of technology!

In those first days, I searched for more about Richard. One of the first places I visited was the “me + richard armitage” blog in what quickly became a daily habit. The blogger shared a veritable treasure trove of thoughts, opinions, observations and so much more. Her musings amazed me; here was someone else who was as, if not more so, interested in Richard as I was. Like someone stumbling in from the desert, I drank it all in. That thirst was never quenched, but her writings helped curb the cravings.

One of the myriad ways Serv’s blog seemed so incredible to me was how she made it so much more than an outlet for her opinions. She provided a gateway for other fan bloggers to be showcased and recognized. She always gave others, especially newbies, a signal boost to her impressive audience. Through her, I was led to read, and interact, with a host of other bloggers. I eventually became one myself, and benefited from her encouragement.

Though we didn’t always share the same opinions on matters, there was a mutual admiration for the other’s thoughts. Serv was ready to call the troops into action when the situation warranted; or tell us a good story (with appropriate password protection 😉); or share what was happening in her life; or just enjoy a particular “Richard” moment.

I remember being a little intimidated about meeting her for the first time. She, and many other bloggers and fans, converged on NYC in November 2016. We were all there to see Richard perform on stage in “Love, Love, Love.” When the meet-up actually happened, I realized how silly I was being. We were all there for the same reason, to enjoy one of our favorite artists plying his craft. Meeting up with like-minded souls was an extended benefit of the moment. Seeing Serv, and adding her face to her words, made everything more personal and interesting.

Since I retired, blogging hasn’t had quite the same level of interest for me. (That’s another story … never mind, anyway.) That doesn’t mean I didn’t read my favorite blogs when I had a chance. Serv’s blog was a regular stop. For some personal reasons, I haven’t even been a regular reader over the past two years. I know I missed quite a bit. Still, the news of Susan’s passing stopped me in my tracks. It just didn’t seem possible that she could be gone. Even writing this, it is still sinking in.

Safe journey, Susan. May you find peace and comfort. Your time among us touched many lives. It enriched mine in ways I could never have imagined. Thank you.

Good-bye, my friend …

She loved every one of them, each of those ChaRActers. And they returned the favor by blessing her with an infinite well of imagination from which to draw some of her most entertaining and engaging stories.

But one stood above the rest, dressed all in black leather, wearing his signature smirk. She chronicled his antics, bringing him to life beyond the boundary of the television show script. And for this reader, each story was a treat. Something to be savored, again and again.

She loved Bennie. And all her fur babies. She shared stories of her life in Alabama that made it seem as if she lived just down the road apiece, where a visit wasn’t just virtual. One could hear her Southern Hospitality in her writing. She brought a ray of sunshine, accompanied by a naughty wink.

Safe journey, Angie. Our very own FedoraLady. You are already missed. You gave us so much. Thank you … 😢💔

Hey gang, you’ve seen me mention our youngest son, Rick, and his amazing abilities as a chef. (It isn’t just maternal pride. 😊) Unfortunately, he is one of those who has been impacted by the rising unemployment due to the current crisis.

In an attempt to maybe help others dispel some anxiety of being stuck in the same place, alleviate some stress and perhaps earn himself a few dollars in the process, Rick has started a series of on-line cooking classes. They are 90-150 minutes in length. (We have participated in two of the test classes. They’re fun! 😊) They aren’t high tech, coming to you live from his apartment kitchen. These are uncomplicated, yet delicious, recipes interlaced with the science behind the cooking — understanding why things work the way they do. He is open to all questions and provides each participant with the full recipes.

Today, he opened the series to the public. If you are interested, you can find more info on either his website at mortarnp.com, or on his Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/m_pestle/ . You can follow on Instagram, using @M_pestle.

Please share with those you think may be interested. Below is the current (as of April 14) list of classes. (Just a screenshot. The links to the classes are available on his website or Instagram.)

Thanks for reading!

A request …

I have written many times about our awesome sons and their incredible spouses. It’s no secret that I wear my “Proud Mom” button boldly. 😊 You’ve seen me go on and on about what a wonderful chef we have in our family. (He really is!)

About a month ago, our youngest called to tell us about an opportunity that had been offered to him and his spouse. An opportunity that is in line with all the work Rick has been doing for many years, one that follows the path of his dreams. One of Rick’s earliest mentors owns a successful cooking school. She has decided that it’s time to retire. She wants Rick and Topher to buy the school. They’ve discussed it with financial advisors and small business professionals, all of whom believe it to be a sound investment. They met with the current owner and said that they are very interested. (“Very” being a bit of an understatement.)

Since then, they have been gathering all the documentation that would be needed to start the process. Rick has taken on the role of manager for the school, learning all the ins and outs of the administrative side of the business.

Now, they are at the funding stage. And this is where my request comes in. Below is a link to the Go Fund Me campaign that they have set up to help them come up with the deposit for an SBA loan. If you can help, with any amount, it would be greatly appreciated.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

Happy Holidays!!!

From our home to yours, we wish you a wonderful holiday season!

That’s my son!

… says the proud Mama. Again. 😊

These photos were taken on August 21 from the Space Needle restaurant (currently under construction). I had mentioned these in a comment conversation on SueBC’s latest post. She said it would be interesting to see what it looks like from a higher vantage point. So, with the permission of the photographer (not me 😊), here are a couple of shots of the “view” from high atop the Space Needle. Having seen the view from there a few years ago – a 360-degree jaw-dropping sight including Mt. Rainier at sunset – these pictures bring into perspective the density of the smoke that is now blanketing the western portions of our continent. (And you get a sneak peek at the renovation happening at the Space Needle.) These shots were taken at mid-day.

According to the photographer, the musical instruments seen here belong to Alice In Chains. Maybe for their next video? Don’t ask me why … I only snaffle images. 😉😊
View of Elliott Bay …

For comparison, below is a photo I took in August 2011, the sight I mentioned above, Mt. Rainier at sunset with the city in the foreground.

There’s a bunch of weirdness happening across the globe, be it strange weather or natural disasters, or, well, other stuff. Everyone keep safe. And touch base with us every so often just so we know you’re alright. (OK, yeah, I just pulled the stand-by of Moms everywhere … “Call me …” LOL)

Happy birthday, Mr. A …

Richard, here’s hoping you’ve had a wonderful day, surrounded by friends, enjoying all that is happening around you.  And, of course, chocolate cake and ice cream!  😊🍷❤️🎉

Sending wishes for many happy returns of the day!

Proud Mom Moment!

Please forgive the gushing of Mom pride over here, but … It’s here!  It’s here!  Rick’s cookbook just arrived and it is gorgeous. Over 100 pages of delicious recipes, mouthwatering photos and margin-to-margin instructions.  Recipes include Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Entrees and, of course, Desserts.   And, in true family-affair fashion, our daughter-in-law is listed as the “Gluten-free consultant” since she provided directions for flour alternatives for any recipe calling for wheat flour.

The cookbook is available on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both hard cover and soft cover.  (I hesitate to call it a paperback, it’s much more durable than any paperback book, cook or otherwise, I’ve ever purchased.)

Now, which recipe do I try first?  (Sans the cannabis, since, well, it isn’t legal here. Yet. 🙂 )

Proud Mom moment …

Our youngest son is a chef. He makes the most delicious dishes, and that’s not just my maternal pride spouting there. His creations are mouth-watering. He’s made meals using ingredients that I normally wouldn’t touch that I seriously devoured. (Just thinking about his cherry chipotle chicken is making me hungry!)

Several years ago, when marijuana became legal where he resides, he began experimenting with cannabis-infused cooking. This isn’t pot brownies and chocolate chip cookies we’re talking about here. These are full-on meals, soups to desserts, and everything in between. He uses cannabis as another chef would use wine or an exotic herb, infusing the dish with the essence to elevate the flavors, not overpower them. To which I can say he does well. His creations that I have sampled were amazing, and had I not known they had a little “extra” added attraction, the taste wouldn’t have given it away. So very yummy.

Over the past two years, Rick has been working diligently on putting together a collection of recipes that use scientific calculations to measure the precise amount of THC to use in a given recipe. (How did I manage to raise two scientists?) He has produced a stunning array of dishes. He also partnered with a local cannabis distributor who has been an enthusiastic supporter.

Which brings me to the reason for today’s post. My proud Mom moment. Last evening, Rick announced that the culmination of all his hard work, his cookbook, has been put up for pre-sale on Amazon. Woo-hoo!!!

Way to go, kiddo! Who knew, when you helped me make cookies when you were three years old, that one day you’d be a published chef?! Dad and I are so very proud of you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
