7Horse \\ THE START
7Horse began as a hypothetical: What if, longtime band mates Joie Calio and Phil Leavitt thought, we bury our musical past and see if we can discover rock ’n’ roll’s Ground Zero? That question having been explored in bold fashion on their 2011 debut “Let the 7Horse Run,” the blues duo returns with an even deeper sense of purpose on the follow-up, “Songs for a Voodoo Wedding” (due June 10). The larger question: What if the mission were not to locate rock ’n’ roll’s chewy center, but to find and channel their own personal identities?
It's all the more remarkable considering 7Horse started as a trial balloon, with Calio and Leavitt exchanging riffs, lyrics and song sketches via iPhone from their homes in Seattle and Los Angeles, respectively. Those ideas in hand, the pair blew through studio sessions that saw them arrange, refine and record one song per day. The results coursed with rawness and immediacy, and it's a process they replicated in making “Songs for a Voodoo Wedding."
It was during the time between albums that 7Horse received the phone call that would change their lives —— at least, the life of their new project. It was from a representative of director Martin Scorsese, saying that the single “Meth Lab Zoso Sticker” was being considered for use in the film The Wolf of Wall Street. The song ended up with a nice cameo in the movie, as well as an appearance in the trailer. “ There’s a certain level of validation when Martin Scorsese thinks your song is good enough for his movie,” Calio says. “That was the proverbial shot in the arm. We weren't looking for it, but we had done everything right. We'd worked our asses off. And sometimes stuff like that comes to you."

7Horse is an American rock and blues duo formed in 2011 most notable for their song "Meth Lab Zoso Sticker" which was featured in Martin Scorsese's film The Wolf of Wall Street, in the second trailer and on the soundtrack. It was also used by FoxSports on the pre-game show for the NFL playoff season. The group consists of Phil Leavitt (songwriter, drummer, and lead vocals) and Joie Calio (songwriter, guitars, bass, and vocals). Both are also members of the band dada.
Their first album, Let the 7Horse Run, was released in 2011. They toured extensively by themselves in 2012. In 2013, they toured as an opening act for the dada 20th Anniversary Tour.
In April of 2014, the song BlackJack Moon, from the album Let the 7Horse Run was used in a Canadian national television commercial for Jeep Wrangler called "Limitations."
On June 10th, 7Horse released Songs For A Voodoo Wedding, coinciding with St. Johns Eve, a Voodoo Holy Day celebration honoring Marie Laveau. A national tour followed.

A two-man band conjuring their own unique variation on blues and roots rock, 7Horse are an offshoot of the popular alternative rock band Dada, with group members Joie Calio and Phil Leavitt stepping up with a new sound and approach. In 7Horse, Leavitt tackles drums and lead vocals, while Calio, who plays bass in Dada, shows off his skills on guitar. Aiming for a raw sound and a direct approach, 7Horse began when Calio and Leavitt began swapping ideas for songs back and forth during downtime from Dada. In 2011, when Dada found themselves with some leftover studio time, Calio and Leavitt took advantage of the situation and quickly knocked out 7Horse's debut album, Let the 7Horse Run. The duo initially supported the release opening for Dada on tour before hitting the road with a run of headlining club shows, and in 2013, the band's profile and prestige got a major boost when filmmaker Martin Scorsese chose to use the 7Horse tune "Meth Lab Zoso Sticker" in his 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street. (The song also made it into one of the film's trailers and appeared on the soundtrack album.) The film's success made a new audience aware of 7Horse and their music, and in 2014, Calio and Leavitt returned with Songs for a VooDoo Wedding, a second effort that more deeply explored the duo's interest in country music.
