The Band
Formed in the spring of 2010, the Athens, GA based sextet, Dank Sinatra, has been making some noise around the Southeast over the past two and a half years. Blending countless different genres into a melting pot of music, Dank Sinatra’s sound is something that can only be described once it has been experienced. From their humble beginnings of their first show at Rye Bar in Athens, GA, the Dank train has been hitting the road ever since and bringing their unique sound to numerous cities throughout the Southeast and beyond, including a recent performance at the Wakarusa Music and Arts Festival. Along the way Dank has shared the stage with many artists including Big Gigantic, Eliot Lipp, Alex B, Moon Taxi, Zoogma, The Heavy Pets, and The Mantras. The band is continuously pushing themselves to create a unique sound and defy any genre descriptions that people place on them. As bass player Clint Meadows says, ‘We’re not going to worry about where this band will be in two-three years. We’re thinking about where this band is right now and what things we can do to improve and master the sound of Dank Sinatra for our fans and ourselves alike.’ The future seems bright as Dank Sinatra continues to grow and expand their sound and their fan base.
The Album
''Just Charlesin'' shares Dank Sinatra’s countless blends of styles including: funk, rock, blues, jazz, electronic, jam, and even soul. Dank Sinatra seeks to attract listeners of all kinds and bring together elements of music from a wide range of genres. Songs like “You and I” and “Peggy Sue” emanates the songs on a basis of funk and soul, and takes the songs into a darker and more electronic setting as the solos develop. Songs like “Imagination Station” and “Déjà vu” invoke styles of blues, jazz, and good ole rock n roll. “Bokonon” and “RHP” share a blend of jazz, electronic, and jam transcending the songs into a complex arrangement of styles. The last track of the album “80’s Dude” takes the listener into a darker blues and jazz setting, while still leaving room for an electronic jam in the middle. “Just Charlesin” is an album that gives people only a taste of what Dank Sinatra is all about as they continue to grow and expand their music. Their live shows are their true trademark as they rely on heavy improvisation and open-ended jams, inviting the crowd to interact and join in on the cumulative live experience that is Dank Sinatra.
