Our fixation on frivolous identity culture

V the K writes at Gay Patriot,
If you had to pick a single person to epitomize Barack Obama’s “fundamental transformation” of the USA, you could not do better than Caitlyn Jenner, who once achieved feats that brought the admiration of the entire world, but has chosen to become an emasculated, celebrity-chasing joke.

But Rachel Dolezal (a.k.a ‘Sideshow Flozell’) comes a pretty damn close second. Whether her race-fluidity is a cynical exploitation of an academic and political culture that favors dark skinned people, a reflection of deep mental illness, or just an extreme example of a white person appropriating what respected social anthropologist Cher called “black cool,” it is striking that her effforts to change her identity have been not as universally lauded by the social progressive left as Caitlyn Jenner’s. (Although some leftists are willing to support Dolezal’s delusion.)

...Above all, the fixation on Caitlyn Jenner and Flozell of Spokane at a time when Chinese hackers are stealing state secrets with impunity; when the Chinese, Iranians, and Russians are laughing at our military; when our economy is being sustained only by massive Government borrowing (that can go on forever, right?) shows that, as a culture, we no longer care about Serious Things. We have lost sight of what matters, and instead are locked into a cycle of self-validation through self-gratification and fixation on frivolous identity culture.

What are we supposed to think today?

Identity. Do you know who you are? Identity issues seem to be near the top of the news cycle today. For weeks the media has been telling us that Bruce Jenner is courageous, because he got breast surgery and decided to become Caitlin Jenner. Now we have a blonde girl from Montana who, like millions of white women in the United States, got a great tan, but then changed her hair texture, and became the leader of the Spokane, Washington Chapter of the NAACP.

Will the media crown Rachel Dolezal as courageous for being something she is not? Will we be required to praise her, or else be ostracized for wrong thinking? Please help us out here, media, and elite thought-controllers like Barack Obama.

Bruce Jenner wins ESPN's Courage award

Ace of Spades weighs in on the Jenner controversy:
As I keep saying, the number of Polite Fictions we are demanded to endorse now outstrips the number of True Things we're allowed to say, and by a considerable number.

Is there any point coming in the near future when we slow down in our Orwellian quest to outlaw truth entirely?

Oh, By The Way: The world's greatest living female Olympian still has a penis.

...Actually, I was wrong that Jenner had the full sex reassignment surgery: He's spending that recommended year "as a woman" to see if he likes it. That's something doctors recommend, because, you know, you wouldn't want to be hasty about a decision like this.

Which makes this all the stranger to me, that it is insisted we call someone with a penis a "woman."

Real Courage. Bruce Jenner, an athlete who plans an elective surgical amputation, won ESPN's "Courage" Award over a war veteran who lost two limbs fighting for his country.

Honestly, if you're a man, you should not be watching ESPN. Jesus God in Heaven.

The new normal

Ann Althouse has viewed the trailer for Caitlin Jenner's new t.v. show, and she has three questions:
1. "You start learning kinda all of the pressure women are under all the time about their appearance." That's your voice-over as you apply heavy makeup. Aren't you putting pressure on women to wear makeup? Whatever happened to the natural look? Well, one thing that happened is that the Kardashian family has been participating in pushing the extremely heavily made-up standard of feminine beauty. Why, if you purport to empathize with what women feel pressured to do are you becoming part of the pressure? How about some critique of excessive makeup? How about relieving the pressure?!

2. On finally getting a makeup professional — you say with a smile — "What a difference!" So because you have the time and money, you are able to get the heavy makeup look, and you are smirking at the viewer — presumably, a woman who is under all of that pressure, and really, by your lights, will probably never get it right. Are you pleased to be about to beat women at their game — a game you participate in defining — or do you actually empathize with women?

3. In the second half of the clip, you're talking and getting filmed while driving. You recently killed a woman by driving inattentively. Shouldn't you not film while driving?!

It's time we had a woman president

Many people have written Manhattan Infidel to see if he has a favorite candidate for president in 2016. He has:
After giving it careful thought and investigating where the candidates stand on today’s hot-button issues I have decided that there is only one person for the job: former Olympian, former Kardashian and former man, Bruce Jenner.

Why Ms. Jenner?
It’s time we had a woman president.

While Hillary has some attractive qualities about her she has been a woman her entire life. Ms. Jenner on the other hand has lived most of her life as a man. This will give her a unique perspective. As a former man she will be fully aware of the evil that is patriarchy. Also, as a woman who has had her penis sliced down the middle and folded back onto itself to create an artificial vagina, if elected Ms. Jenner will slice the patriarchy and its companion, capitalism, down the middle and fold it back onto itself, creating a soft, warm, wet, inviting socialist workers paradise.

Hillary, having worked her entire life within the capitalist patriarchy only cares about profit. And keeping Bill away from the interns. But hey, as long as there is profit she can live with Bill having sex with interns. Though she might feel conflicted.

Ms. Jenner will not have this problem. As a fully functioning male-to-female post-op transsexual her top priority will be helping the middle class. And throwing out her erectile dysfunction medication which she won’t need anymore.

Driving without a penis

You may have heard that Bruce Jenner was recently involved in a fatal collision on the Pacific Coast Highway. As usual, Manhattan Infidel has all the details of the crash and police interviews with Ms. Jenner. This week Ms. Jenner is on 92 percent of the magazine covers at your local supermarket. Next week it will be one hundred percent.
