Yes, it is. Its over. The world cup that is. And to be completely honest, I’m not too happy about it. The teams that I’d wish had won didn’t. The bets I made mostly lost. The ball is just round and unfair. Spain, for all the superstars that they had did not play like they should have. Forgive me, but they truly didn’t deserve the cup. My favourite team were the Germans and as I had mentioned in my previous blog, had all the ingredients for a world cup winning team. Sadly they just didn’t pull it through in the semis. They truly disappointed me but I sincerely hope that they improve from the experienced gained and go on to win the world cup in Brazil. My favourite underdog was and still is Ghana. They played with confidence amidst all the pressure and I just enjoyed seeing them pass the ball around. Hopefully they would do well too.
That aside, my top players. The German number 7, Bastian Schweinsteiger. To me, he is just simply an awesome all rounded player. Good control that just dominates the midfield. The other guy is none other than Wesley Sneijder. He played well throughout the cup but lacked the finesse in the finals. Rumours are that he might just move to Manchester United for 25m. Hope that works out. Number 3 would be Kevin Prince Boateng for the skills and drive to give all out for his country and he is inked all over. There are others as well but I just can’t recall any of the names. Screw that.
And since the world cup is over, there would no more vuvuzelas. Thank the good Lord for that. But other thing that really annoys me is these stupid psychic animal predictors. Paul the fucking octopus and Mani the dumb parakeet. I hate that octopus more for making the correct predictions against Germany. But what is with all these predictions. Can’t these people just leave the game to be won on its own. Why do we need animals the predict the future when it is in our own hands to create? I hope the octopus turns up on the dinner plate and that dumb bird on the soup bowl.
Now since it is over, what else can we expect. Nothing much I would say. Life just goes on as it was before. Obviously, the Spain supporters would go on and on about how good they were and the media would hype about it for some time. For the players, it would just mean a much needed break from all the pressure and for those who shone on the world scene, might even open up opportunities to play for a better club and a better future. I would definitely miss the moments where we grab a few bottles and watch the games together even if we supported opposite teams. Every 4 years, the world cup does what it does best by bringing people together and from what I hear, it has certainly brought the host nation, South Africa together. What truly surprised me through out the 1 month period is that even the women around me have been showing a keen interest in football. Even though they support the better looking teams than the better playing ones, but none the less they are able to talk football along with the guys. That is something I’m not used to. My guess is this is God’s gift to men so that we can enjoy the beautiful game together. Cheers FIFA for not fucking up the world cup as much as you could.
