A SMALL INSTALL

Taps on the microphone....hopefully some of you are still out there:)

I know....I often wonder why I can't get my post written in a timely manner anymore.  I hesitate to say this because my family and friends will be all crazy and start calling.....but....I do think it is mild depression.  In fact I think I have mentioned it before but it really does affect my work and just day to day living.

Take procrastination and multiply it by 10....everything seems to take so much effort and I can easily ignore things which is not good when people have hired you to get it done!

Ever since my sister died last summer [it is coming up on a year] I have felt this way.  I can say it comes and goes and I know time can help but as I say...."one day at a time"....

The exciting news is that I did get a small install done!  Yay....alert the press!

It is my "modern glam" client and I have to say I am proud of how this one is coming along!

On my last post I showed you a few updates....and this one will reflect the bookcases and pillows along with a few other accessories!

Here is the before....when she bought the place.  This was the previous owners things.  She wanted to rip down the shelves but I talked her into painting them because I knew she would like them better....and guess what....I was right:)

Pats self on the back!

Here is what the sectional and bookcases looked like before we started!

I did have a little "chat" with her before I started buying things.  She wanted a lot of picture frames of her family and equestrian objects.  I persuaded her to let me do a gallery wall of family pictures in the hallway and I said yes....I would mix in some "horsey stuff".  BUT....I was not going to make it a "theme"!

We came to a good place and Rose and I got started shopping.  [Rose is the best].

We are still waiting for a fixture to replace the fan.... but I am so happy with how they turned out!

Really most was thrifted except for the white jar at the top!

Man I love doing shelves!  And the pillows really came together on the sectional.  Waiting for the curtains to arrive which should happen in the next 2 weeks!

There is also a chair coming in the above empty space which has been shipped!  Hallelujah....

The bedroom is coming along but still working on a few things!

How I made myself sit down and do this is a small miracle...but baby steps right!

Oh yeah I had so much fun hanging out with Mary Ann from
Classic Casual Home and Kim from Northern California Style Thursday and Friday night.  They were in town for a DIY conference and we went to dinner!

You should read both of their blogs....so much good stuff!

You guys have a great Sunday and hopefully I can get everything I need to get done next week....finished!

BEFORE AND AFTER

I love Fridays.....there I said it.  One reason is that I have been taking Saturdays off from work....you know like a "mental health day".  I used to just work 7 days a week....meaning that I was always doing some work on the weekends but that was no fun!

I got my second vaccine on Tuesday and I was waiting for all the bad things to happen but it was just like the first shot......nothing.  So there you have it.

I posted about that on Instagram and somebody got all over me saying "I was acting like a hero" because I took the vaccine.  HUH?  Look....get one if you want or don't.....it is none of my business.....don't come at me.

The only reason I think I am a hero is that I managed to find the darn "correct" parking deck at the Mercedes Benz Stadium since the only directions on the sheet of paper said "park at the stadium".  Um....there are like 25 parking decks.

#oldpeople need a little more help than that.

So I was about to dog y'all today cause I really didn't have anything to share with you.  I mean the fashion post about did me in with keeping all the links straight and stuff....:)

But I thought I would share just a few pictures to prove the power of paint in design!

OK....no judgement here....cause you know the after will be stunning.....

Here is the deal.....the opening to the room was about 4 feet so the first thing is to enlarge it.  Next up is take the corbels off the fireplace mantel. The surround is a brown marble and I suggested to keep it.....you'll see....

This entrance got closed in as they really didn't need it!

Now the opening has been widened to 6 feet.  We are going to keep the chandelier but paint out the room a light color.....painting out all the brown trim but keeping the stained wood sashes as they are throughout the house....

The Brazilian Cherry floors are getting refinished.  I know what you are thinking....how to get the red out of those suckers.  Well the floor guy gave us a sample and I was amazed.  He puts a bleach on them first and then he was able to get a pretty brown.  We are both excited about that!

OK.....are you ready to see the room painted????

I mean.....whoa mama.....

Total game changer!  Benjamin Moore White Sand.  I sent her some sconce selections.....so I will keep you posted on this little gem of a makeover.

Like I said.....the power of paint.....

Last night I went over to my neighbors and she order food from the Slutty Vegan.....

Ha Ha I think she was afraid we wouldn't have enough fries!  I plowed through those suckers and then we destroyed the rest.  She asked me if I wanted to take them home and I said #hellno.....I would not rest until they were all gone.

RED BRICK HOUSES WITH BLACK TRIM

Since I am deep into "One Room Challenge land" thinking about other post isn't so easy.....

I am so focused....think dog with a bone... that a quick slap is needed to bring me out of that trance:)

I can definitely think of a few volunteers:)

Anyway I thought I would discuss a trend that might be happening.  Now you guys know that I love a white house!  Meaning that when I finally decided on the white shade for my house [Benjamin Moore China White] the angels started singing.....cause it was a struggle.

But.....I am so digging this old red brick look with black trim!

Thoughts?  I mean yes this is really cool old brick and looking very vintage....but here are some other inspiration images

Our first instinct would be to paint brick and I am a serious fan of that look!

Below at first glance....just your basic red brick but the dark trim really changes things....
I mean those red brick houses used in the 50's and 60's could definitely take on a more modern look with dark trim!

To me this looks really updated!

Of course we all don't have red brick that looks this good....

What are your thoughts on this trend?

sourceHere are a few dark trim colors....that can help spur the job forward if you are deciding to do this!

I researched this on Pinterest.....and really could not find the sources so if one of these happen to be your home....please share with us your inspiration!

Happy Saturday guys!

Movers, backsplash, and chairs painted!

Hope everyone had a swell Mothers day!  It was quiet for me but I enjoyed my last weekend before going underground to the bedroom.  So packers came today...movers tomorrow and demolition on Wednesday.  I am really interested to see how they will do everything with no damage.  Guess that is why they are professionals.

Here are a few pictures....
It is tore up now....
Take your last look at my floors because guess what??????
I am painting them all white!  I mean when is the next time everything will be moved out of my WHOLE house????  I am using the Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan.  I called a few vendors who sell it and they said it is the best stuff.  I ordered a quart today and it should be here by Wednesday so I can sample.  I used 1/2 paint and 1/2 water for my bedroom floors but I think this is a better product.
These are the bedroom floors.  They are white oak as opposed to the red oak in the rest of the house.

I have quite a collection of white ironstone  pitchers that I have not displayed  forever.  I was collecting things while most of you were in braces and high school.  Seriously.  If I saw something in a magazine that I liked, I would make it my mission to buy every. last. one.  Yes...my slipcovers are dirty as the bottom of my feet.  I just let them go the last week or so.  Dogs just crawling all over them.  So what who cares....
More.
More...and I think some were already packed up.  Hoarder.
Whoops...a few more.
I guess I will be putting everything back in a different way...why not...it is what we do right?
I love old trays.....
And calligraphy brushes...especially if they are cream.
I have had this covered up for years with a skirt...but now that gold is back in....it just might make an appearance.
Covered.

So...here is what I am thinking for the backsplash.  I only need $180.00 worth......sweet huh?
It is called Alabama white.
I love the size...6x12.

Remember these...my first CL purchase????
Here they are painted!
Of course I am not sure where they are going.  I am not sure of what to cover the seats in.  I am not sure of anything except that I LOVE em!

So.....all of this from a little old dishwasher leak......and floors that can't be replaced.  Until now.  PAINTED WHITE.  My dream.
