It’s gonna be tough measuring the “size of the problem” when there are thought-criminals like me who recognize that “hate crime” is nothing more than naked thought-policing. It is 100% politically motivated; it’s meant to silence dissent; and, while it has largely been successful, it has exposed the escalating Bolshevization of the Left, through both corrupted formerly credible organizations like SPLC, ADL and ACLU (all of which are now just as hysterical and partisan as the laughable John Birch Society) and hyperpartisan propaganda outlets, like Religion News Service. In the climax of the film the Stay Put Know-Your-Place Man a golem of the Status Quo accused of being an Antifa phantom begins to terrorize the Truth-Busters leading Lauren to exclaim: “Yes, I draw the same conclusion about the eminent threat of left-wing terrorism (or alt-left-adjacent attacks) every time there’s a new clip on YouTube of “the knockout game”. It’s really the best way to navigate through life.” In the end the Truth-Busters take down Stay Put and contain the Emergent Red-Letter Christian hordes in their Emergent Red-Letter Christian Organizers (ERCO) Containment Unit causing an environmental disaster on a Biblical scale. Things are just so good in rich Western countries for so many people that they have to gripe about something as trivial as this.Simpsons’ Springfield is replete with stereotypes: racial, ethnic, disabled, gender, occupational, class, &c. I hadn’t heard of Hari Kondabolu before today (outside of this cringeworthy film), but something tells me his style of humor is the sort that NPR Middlebrows and Rotten Tomatoes critics would fawn over, much like the musings of Lily Singh or Hannah Gadsby. In other words, lots of self-pity and references to “justice” and “marginalized” and “patriarchy”, which are not funny subjects by any reasonable standard for the unwoke majority–which means of course that sites like RNS (the religion department for NPR or New York Times) must work overtime to prop up these comedians’ otherwise marginal careers. And if they still flop, it’s because we’re bigots. So sad what’s happened to comedy amidst our Great Leap Forward: even The Simpsons isn’t really funny anymore.I hope that, when Kondabalu gets fed up with the US because it’s not enlightened enough, he moves to a country where there is absolutely no racism. Chances are this country will also have no problems with greed or jealousy or uncontrollable lust or gluttony or cable channels devoted to reruns of Full House. Correct–the left hasn’t taken over all of academia…only 96% of it. And while there are still no doubt some faculty who are not sympathetic to Marxism, they are cowed into submission by the borg-like mindvirus that shames them and threatens them with ridicule, sexual assault allegations, or even physical violence (hard to fire someone with tenure) if they dare dissent. We all saw what happened to Bret Weinstein at Evergreen two years ago…and he was still basically a leftist.
Fortunately, self-correction is starting to occur, as the marginal little liberal arts colleges are already collapsing (the fourth one in Vermont in 2019 alone–Marlboro College–just announced absorption by Emerson College out of Boston) and soon it will bubble upward to the Oberlin group…a bunch of highly competitive, formerly reputable schools who are mostly ideologically rigid, suffering stagnant or declining enrollment, and those with puny endowments are already rated by Moody’s junk bond status.
Higher ed is about to go the same direction as the legacy media. Too bad so sad. I’ll be interested in hearing your predictable rebuttal and attempt to downplay this. Those “right-wing grievances” are a major factor in diminished enrollment, declining alumni donations, and legislatures facing little backlash when they cut funding for the state university system. While they’re not the only factor–declining birth rates and negative word of mouth about the low ROI of higher ed is huge–it’s not getting better, because our universities keep getting more orthodoxical. And crappier.
I don’t believe this kooky pastor should try to revolutionize Moscow, ID. But he’s welcome to try–provided he abides by the laws we have in place and respects other people’s First Amendment freedoms. But chances are he’ll compete with other nutters who have slightly different but equally dogmatic views. We “poor” Christian majority are tired of being discriminated against in our own Country—remember this Great Nation was founded upon “Christian principles” and that all of our Founding Fathers were “good Bible-Believing Calvinists” especially Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
