Mini blocks

Image
The Mini Series Sew Along is continuing and I have so far more or less managed to follow the schedule. I have even sewn extra blocks. I only really posted week 1 blocks in details here, so let's have a look at the others.  Week 2 was about the Courthouse step block and the diamond block.  I had already sewn those in September but here they are I also made an extra diamond and a distorted triangle this month.  The next series of block was the pineapple block and the hexagon step block which took forever to sew with so many tiny pieces (over 85 in the pineapple block) The following blocks were the triangle geese block and the bloom block And finally the stretched geese block I've made 13 mini blocks included 7 completed in October and I really like how they've turned out. Not sure what I'll end up doing with them but never mind! Linking to  Design Wall Monday ,   Monday Making ,  Midweek Makers ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,  Happy Needle and Threa ...

Mini Series Quilt Along

Image
The   f irst week of the Mini Series Quilt Along with Alison Glass and Giuseppe Ribaudo. I took part on the original one a few years back (during the pandemic?). I have sewn so little this year that I wasn't really planning to join again. But then I saw some lovely blocks popping up on Instagram including Madeline's ones using Liberty fabrics. So I got some of my Liberty fabrics out ready for the quilt along. Just before cutting in my precious stash, I also found a basket of Liberty scraps, leftover from the Halo blocks (still unfinished by the way...). I dived into those first as the pieces in the blocks are so tiny.  For block 1, a traditional log cabin, I loosely selected a mixed of blue and pink fabric. Block 2 is a triangular log cabin, where I alternated rounds of lighter and darker fabrics. First 2 blocks are finished. On time too! And the scrap basket is still rather full so lots left for the remaining 10 blocks.  I hadn't done any paper piecing for a long while...

Halo quilt along

Image
The quilt-along started in April but I only managed to join last month by starting to cut pieces of fabric. I have't cut everything out yet but I started sewing earlier this month for a little diversity.  I started by framing the 24 squares with 2 triangles and then with 2 more. Only to realise that I had cut out far too many triangles (and I just hate it when that happen... but never mind, it is only fabric after all. OK precious, lovely Liberty lawn fabric in this case 😉😱😢) I now have the 24 centre squares. Next step is to add the rounded parallelogram on the side of the squares And I have sewn 2 on either side of the squares for now Once I finished this step with the 4 pieces, I will need to audit my stash to find a fabric for the arcs. I am planning to cut them out from possibly just one or  a handful of fabric. I was thinking stripes but I don't think I have what I need. Slow and little progress, but progress nonetheless. Joining a new quilt-along.... very late

Image
When the Halo Quilt Along was announced back in March, I had all intentions to join in with the fun. I ordered the book, printed the template and set on using my stash of Liberty fabrics. But I worked on other projects and never got started...  Finally earlier this month, I got my box of Liberty out and went through those packs of scraps I had bought over the years to start cutting the pieces.  Cutting always take forever but in a way sometimes it is quite therapeutic when tired/fed up/exhausted etc... So I have quietly and slowly been doing some cutting on the evenings when there was so time left before bed time. I haven't got all the pieces I need yet and crucially I haven't decided on the arcs fabric yet but I will hopefully soon be ready to start piecing. I guess the sew-along is nearly over now but never mind, I'll go at my own pace.... it is not a race after all.... Linking to   Monday Design Wall ,  Monday Making ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,...

Just in time

Image
Today was the deadline to send the Liberty swap #lolswapround2 and this is another one that got finished just in time. I had started cutting my pieces some time last week but there were so many deadlines in the last week or so that I didn't finished piecing my block until last night. My partner showed a glance of her mini wall on IG and I noticed that she had a few with stars so I thought a swoon block could work well with those. I picked 3 pink Liberty, a larger print with owls for the centre star, an allover pink for the outside and pink and green floral for the accents. And I love the block I must admit. I even thought that a quilt made of Liberty swoon blocks would be so nice... maybe, one day (I can dream lol) I started the quilting last night but didn't manage to finish it before bed time. So I got back to it this morning when I got up. I used a white binding so it doesn't show. I added the binding entirely by hand because I was so late but it worked quite...

Swap packages in and out

Image
So I came back from holidays to find this wonderful package waiting for me from Louise (all the way from Australia) for the Happy Unicorn Swap. I must say the girls were ready to raid it as soon as I opened it and I had trouble even being able to see it all! Look at this cute quilt! and how about this sweet mini unicorn, just fabulous Thanks Louise, truly appreciated by me but also by the whole family! And as soon as we got back on Sunday, I chained myself to the sewing machine to make sure my Liberty of London swap package would be ready to be sent on Monday. I finished the sewing mat I had started before the holidays late on Sunday and sent my package on Monday after a little photo session! Liberty love

Image
I had a plan. And then I changed my mind and ordered some fabric. And then the fabric I ordered hasn't arrived yet so I decided I was time to make a start on my project for the Liberty of London Swap or #lolswap which is due early next month. I will be making a sewing machine mat for my partner with mini-charm squares, My first idea was to use a handful of fabric and use strips. I then decided that maye it would be better to mix it more and ordered some charm packs but they aren't there yet and I don't want to leave it till the last minute (not sure what is wrong with me!) and decided to make a start this week-end. So here is my selection of fabric for my mat. Hope my partner likes it! Linking to Design Wall Monday , Anything Goes Monday , WIP , WOW . Celine

In Progress

Image
During the holidays we have covered about 1500 miles (2200 km) and spent about 30 hours in total in the car so of course I had plenty of opportunities and time to hand sew! I progressed on a few EPP blocks which are almost ready to go. I worked on my Lucy Boston's Patchwork of the Cross blocks for the I love Lucy Bee as I have some catch up to do. The bee started in November but I only received my templates early December and of course in the run up to Christmas I never started my blocks. So I have one red and white block nearly finished one grey/black/taupe and yellow block in progress I also finished my flowers for Chrys and these are heading to their new homes now. And yesterday I picked up my belated Tea Cup blocks for Sew Euro Bee An for Di that have been waiting for a while. I am nearly done with them now, only the handles to add. And although it was back to work, back to the routines, back to reality this week, I am very fortunate to have received a fantas...

Knitting and Stitching Show - Alexandra Palace

Image
I left work early today to go to the Knitting and Stitching in Alexandra Palace. I think I hadn't been for 3 years so it was nice to go back. They had a late evening ticket today valid from 3 to 7, perfect for me. I didn't go with a long shopping list but I wanted to try and find the supplies I needed to make an attempt at these lovely slippers . I was told they are easy to make even for a beginner (not sure about that but I should try!) I found some chunky wool (wool is not called worsted in the UK) in pink and purple and bought a crochet hook as well. Now I only need to be brave and try! But of course while I was looking for some supplies for my slippers, I found these cuties from Edward's Menagerie from Toft  and I couldn't resist buying the pattern book. There are just gorgeous. Now I have been told that they take about 5 hours to crochet. I am not convinced I can do it in 5 hours as a complete novice but I'll give it a try and let you know. (Photo from Toft ...
