About Gemma Cassells

Hello!

I’m Gemma, and I have recently graduated with my PhD from Edinburgh University. The road to my thesis has been a long, hard battle, and this blog is a place to store all the random knowledge and opinions I have accumulated over the course of my academic career. My interests cover sustainable development, climate change, Africa, forests, gender equality, the PhD process and student experience and the uncertainties of moving into whatever’s coming next for me. I also dabble in forensic science, quilting and rock climbing, but these are subjects largely contained to other corners of the internet.

My PhD examined the use of remote sensing for supporting sustainable forest management in Malawi. I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time living in Malawi, making a lot of great friends and eating a lot of mangos. If you have any questions on forests, Malawi, fieldwork in developing countries or remote sensing please feel free to get in touch. I’m on twitter (@gemmacassells) and LinkedIn, or you can get me via the comments form below.
