Account suspended & VS Code Git push 403 after switching accounts (Mac)

Summary

My GitHub account 'github.com/Janet-ChengYutung' was suspended while I was using Copilot. I opened a support ticket and reinstalled Git & VSC, but I’m still blocked from pushing to the repo of my backup account.

Current error

git push fails with: remote:

git push origin main:main
remote: Your account is suspended. Please visit https://support.github.com for more information.
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/(account name)/HI.git/': The requested URL returned error: 403

What I tried (macOS)

Opened a GitHub Support ticket
Reinstalled Git and VSC
Signed out/in of GitHub in VS Code and removed GitHub sessions
I’m able to push code from the GitHub virtual coding environment (Codespaces) only

Note

Copilot is showing a yellow status on GitHub Status, but the 403 looks tied to the account suspension.

Questions

How do I fully detach VS Code/Git from the suspended account on macOS so I can be sure no credentials are cached?

Anything else I should add to my Support ticket to speed up review?

Hi Janet

The 403 error is happening because your main GitHub account is suspended, not because of Git or vs code. to use your backup account, you’ll need to remove the old login and sign in again:
on macOS, open keychain access and delete any saved github.com entries.
in vs code, sign out of GitHub and then sign back in with your backup account.
make sure your remote URL points to the backup account repo:

git remote set-url origin https://github.com/<backup-account>/<repo>.git

that should let you push again. for the suspended account, only GitHub support can restore access. so just keep your support ticket open.
for GitHub support, make sure you’ve included:
your suspended account username (github.com/your_username)
the error message (your account is suspended … 403)
that you’ve already tried reinstalling Git/vs code and clearing sessions
mention that you can push from codespaces (shows the repo itself is fine, only account auth is blocked)

Thanks! Your method worked. I removed the old keychain access and now I’m able to push again.
I’ll keep my support ticket open and monitor the suspended account.
