Building on the successful delivery of the Sydney Metro M1 Line, we are proud to announce that MTR will be part of Sydney’s efforts in shaping the next chapter of its transport network. A consortium led by MTR has been awarded a major contract for the Sydney Metro West project, a brand-new 24-kilometre underground metro railway line that would connect Sydney’s CBD with its major commercial and residential hub in the west, Parramatta. With services scheduled to commence in 2032, the transformative line will feature nine stations to enhance accessibility and support the city’s growth. While infrastructure works are managed by the NSW Government, our consortium, in partnership with a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited, will deliver next-generation driverless metro trains, advanced signaling, communications and control systems, and oversee system integration, testing, and commissioning. After launch, we will also manage operations and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable journeys for years to come. Mr David Tang, Property and International Business Director, expressed his delight at the contract award, noting that this achievement reflects MTR’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and world-class railway operations: “MTR has played an integral role in delivering core railway systems for the Sydney Metro M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line, as well as operating and maintaining the Northwest and City sections. We are deeply grateful to the NSW Government for awarding us this contract, and we look forward to bringing our global expertise to this landmark project—creating a safe, reliable, and world-class transport experience for Sydney’s passengers and beyond.” #MetroTrainsWest #SydneyMetroWest

For years, MTR has been proud stewards of the Lok Ma Chau Wetland—a thriving ecosystem rich in biodiversity that reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability beyond railway operations. Through our partnership with the Centre for Civil Society and Governance of the University of Hong Kong—we launched the Wetland Nursery Programme on Campus, a pilot initiative that transformed students into dedicated Wetland Conservationists. Students engaged in interdisciplinary learning through workshops and hands-on planting activities, gaining insights into wetland ecosystems while contributing to conservation efforts and fostering a strong sense of responsibility for environmental protection. #LokMaChauWetland #MoreThanJustARailway #Sustainability #EnvironmentalEducation

The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) "Xihe" has successfully completed the up-track tunnel to the future Tung Chung West Station and has now commenced the down-track tunnel towards Tung Chung Station, marking a major milestone for the Tung Chung Line Extension project! Using a cutting-edge 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡-𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 and a 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫, the 100-metre-long, 1,000-tonne TBM was turned around and reassembled within the shaft—avoiding conventional disassembly, lifting, transport, and reassembly. This innovative approach substantially reduces construction time and minimises disruption to the surrounding community. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to engineering excellence and delivering world-class railway infrastructure for Hong Kong. #NewRailwaysGoBeyondBoundaries #TungChungLineExtension #TungChungWestStation #TunnelTurnaround #TBM #Xihe
