About us

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) was first formed by a group of volunteers in 1903 and officially registered in 1921. Although we are the first charity in Hong Kong to deal with all aspects of animal welfare, we obtain only 1% of our funding from the Government. The rest of our funding comes from the generosity of the general public. Despite limited resources, we continue to launch new initiatives to improve animal welfare and meet a growing and diverse societal demand. We offer a one-stop service for animal welfare – from rescue, medical services, rehabilitation, adoption, post-adoption services to education. Our Mission "End animal cruelty, alleviate suffering, and protect the health & welfare of all animals across Hong Kong through actions, advocacy and education." Our Vision "Creating ONE HONG KONG where all animals are treated with compassion and respect."

  • We are thrilled to have participated in the Hong Kong International Mental Health Conference, hosted by Mind HK 香港心聆 at the Hotel ICON on 8 November. This enlightening event focused on the crucial theme of mental health through the lens of our beloved pets.   Our panel, which focussed on "Beloved Companions: Pets and Mental Health" featured our very own: ·      Gigi Fu, President of SPCA ·      Dr. Olivia Fong, Senior Veterinary Surgeon at SPCA ·      Vivian Or, Animal Welfare Manager and senior foster parent at SPCA   The session highlighted the profound bond between humans and animals and how this relationship can significantly impact our mental well-being. We delved into topics such as pet loss, mourning practices, and the importance of emotional support during challenging times, sharing practical resources offered by SPCA's "Never Too Old to Love" programme, aimed at providing comprehensive support for pet owners in bereavement.   As a community, we strive to integrate more mental health support services for pet owners and continue our mission to promote the invaluable role pets play in enhancing our emotional health.   Thank you to all who attended and engaged in these important conversations. Together, we can foster a deeper understanding of mental health in connection with our cherished animal companions.   For more information about our ongoing initiatives and resources, https://lnkd.in/gGHhxUuj   #MentalHealth #PetLoss #AnimalWelfare
