This tunic was worked in 2012.
This cotton tunic is handloom cotton in golden yellow. The Indian pant is cream and yellow with a wavy pattern.

the pattern was inspired by a tunic seen in a boutique.

Starting with kutchwork border in the centre , the other linear stitches are chain in different colours, closed herringbone stitch, zigzag back stitch, fly stitch and its variation, and the last chain stitch boxes are for the mirrors to be worked inside. The detail-

This week I could write the post on Wednesday itself!
This week, I could work on Beyond TAST challenge and a stitch on SSS challenge. The samples detail will be in separate posts.
Because of the time taken to work the challenges, the navy blouse was not even seen this week.
Chain stitches were worked with light blue thread on this sleeve border.

Two new projects are in progress, a string bag for a friend’s birthday and embroidery on neck line for a chiffon fabric. Hope to have more details next week.

The graph patterns for Alphabets started this week on Randje per week 2016 challenge. The free graph for these are available on this blog. It was more interesting to work the Alphabets than I thought. The fabric and the threads are also part of the reason for this extra interest on this challenge. Seeing the outcome of this variegated thread is also quite thrilling. Now for the today’s work-

The Mattrah souq in Muscat is filled with oxidized silver jewellery. The inspiration for this tunic is from a turquoise and coral ear piece. When a blue cotton fabric was found for the tunic, the idea of working the embroidery in red fabric rose simultaneously.
Indian ethnic kutchwork design was chosen for this project, the kutchwork embroidery in blue on red fabric.
The border in the centre was worked in medium blue. The outline stitch to work the interlacing.

Sometime ago, I had this idea of working the same pattern on two fabrics and combine them to use as tunic embellishment. The tunic chosen for this purpose was an ikat cotton fabric.
The pattern was simple with mirror work, that which can be worked with Aari needle too. I worked with the normal # 9 crewel needle. The pattern for the yoke and the sleeves.
The patterns were traced on these two fabrics.

This embroidery around the neck of this cream and yellow printed cotton tunic was done in the fourth quarter of the year 2013.
The embroidery was on bright yellow cotton fabric, which was also the salwar fabric. The pattern had two parts, a medium size kutchwork border and a curved design. Both were worked with cotton skeins. I tried to bring an assissi effect, by working the background with herringbone filling and outlining with back stitch. The tunic-

This weekend was a stitch free one, we drove to Dubai. I had thought of working on the way home, but eyes were too tired. The edges this week are quite interesting especially the 23rd edge. The free graphs for these edges are here.
The kutchwork border samples are skipped this week.
For some reason I was unable to post on my blog for the past two days

After completing the randje per week 2014 challenge, I thought of concentrating more on embroidery on tunics. Satin stitches with cotton skeins were started on the central panel of blue/green crepe tunic.
While working on this my tailor came back from his visit. A pink crepe silk fabric was given to him for marking the centre and sleeves for a tunic, which he marked. I had thought of a simple creeper design for the centre for this tunic [some idea malfunction]. This design required a full front and not just the central panel alone. Now the front panel and sleeves were sitting there. A new pattern was drawn for those. I have a green leggings which does not match any tunic. Matching it with this tunic seems a nice idea now. It is floral pattern. Started the leaf stitches on leaves [what else?] with cotton skein and silk thread. It is hard to use the hoop on this fabric, may be it needs some fusing in back. Where to look for this? Spending time on searching and learning is not practical now. The work started on sleeve-
Have drawn some dots on white paper to try some ideas of chicken scratch on dotted fabric.

I had seen some printed tussar silk sarees, with running stitch embroidery on them. Wanting to try this, I chose a block printed handloom fabric with zigzag print to work running stitch and mirror work for a tunic.
Simple running stitch embroidery on those zigzag lines. The idea was worked now.
Moving on to work the ethnic embroidery around the neck and front with herringbone, chain and beck stitches.
The mirror work in red thread.
The green striped tunic with running stitched sleeves, and salwar.

The pattern for the neck and front-
The idea of working the herringbone stitches in yellow was good. But after working them, it was not very appealing, another round mirror arrangement below the big mirror flower might have been better. The ideas for improvisations came after the tunic was sewn. But it gave satisfaction to have tried the idea of running stitch on printed fabric. Sure saves time on pattern making, tracing and working large areas.
Whenever, I had an inspirations like these, I work that on my project. Pondering on the idea of working the inspirations on samplers these days.

Another version of beaded herringbone was worked with dark brown thread and this stitch was worked over pink lace. With these samples the piece was completed.

This one was fairly simple and quicker to finish. The dark pink bead changing into red colour was unexpected. Now time to work this week’s Randje.
