Teachers without Borders list Girls’ Education as one of their nine initiatives and it is this initiative that is the focus of my Future Learning Space. The learning space I am designing is based around the girls in immigration detention on the island of Nauru. These girls, mostly with their families, are seeking refuge in Australia.
These families have come from war-torn parts of the globe, seeking safety. Education for their children has not been a priority in the fight for survival. Girls who reach the age of 12 without an education, or whose education then ceases, are at risk. Take a look at the movies at the following links for an explanation of the consequences of not educating girls.

and
“The positive impact of educating girls is indisputable. Educated girls are 50% more likely to immunize their children in the future. A child born to a literate mother is 50% more likely to survive past the age of 5. And with an extra year of education, a girl can earn up to 20% more as an adult.”
