Your knee is a mosaic of stones, and your chest a gaping wound from the destruction of five delicately effective, ruby lacquered talons. She places one heart shaped kiss upon your shock smoothed forehead, and one palm around the glinting offering. Like all terrible Goddesses the tribute is taken, but you are given no reward beyond the acidic saliva left behind from the press of her lips. Even her lipstick walks away from you. Overheard the squeals of children mingle in the air with the carnival sounds of circus music and the whir of cotton candy machines. The horses are bobbing. The horses are galloping. The horses are laughing. Laughing at you, the fool of Halloween.
