Let’s Talk About Pokemon Legends Z-A pt. 2! September 12, 2025

As we get nearer to the release of Pokemon Legends Z-A, there has been quite a handful amount of new information we received since the last time I talked about this though let’s be honest, we mostly got some characters, got some new things like the Battle Club which is kind of part of the story arc.  Curious to see what’ll come next, but for now let’s talk about ALL THE NEW MEGAS!

Mega Victreebel

Seems like we get another Gen 1 Mega with Victreebel and lord does it look wild to me.  It’s just funny that the face is upside down and the body is just one large stomach.  I do like it though, but I’m still curious at what differs this from Victreebel proper (and for that Mega Dragonite as well) since both don’t change types and abilities haven’t been spoken about yet.

Mega Hawlucha

I’m not sure what to think about Hawlucha getting a Mega, BUT this is the first Kalos Pokemon to receive one (since Mega Diancie), so this is kind of a big deal.  I do enjoy that the mask is not more like a heel (in Lucha Libre terms, the bad-guy/anti-hero.  Though kind of disappointed that not much else has changed about it besides the mask.  Still is Fighting/Flying though, so likewise, unsure what that means for abilities.

Mega Malamar

OK, Malamar being introduced was cool and I like how the ink has become the brain basically, it’s kind of a horror-type situation which is awesome and I didn’t expect Malamar to get a Mega (another Kalos ‘mon).  Still Dark/Psychic, but definitely looks cool and the rainbow body is neat to me.  Very curious to see what its capable of in the game.

Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, Mega Greninja

On today’s Nintendo Direct, we got the announcement of the Kalos starts getting Megas and I was kind of surprised this wasn’t a thing in the original X/Y games.  I will say Chesnaught and Delphox got some love because I really like that Chesnaught gets a polearm as a weapon along with the shield, but Delphox gets to ride the blazing broom and controls to torches in the air.  Greninja though is kind of lacking.  I like the giant water shuriken it’s standing (or hanging) on but the design is mostly untouched (with just black on the legs).  I kind of would’ve preferred if Ash-Greninja had become the Mega, but eh?  Overall, nice, though hmmm….

(So, before I go into the last two, there has been a leak a few months back detailing who’d be getting a Mega in this game and I didn’t want to talk about because it was just rumor, but after all the announcements thus far…I’m starting to feel that it’s true and there’s some left.

  • Gen 1: Clefable & Starmie – Kind of surprised both of them are getting Megas, but it’s curious to see how that will function
  • Gen 2: Meganium, Feraligatr, Skarmory – Not surprised by the first two since they are starters in Z-A so I’m fully expecting that.  Skarmory though is a surprise since it’s a one-stage ‘mon, so getting a Mega would be cool (I kind of think of this being parallel to Hawlucha getting one).
  • Gen 4: Froslass – To coincide with Glalie getting one in OR/AS, makes sense
  • Gen 5: Emboar, Excadrill, Scolipede, Scrafty, Eelektross, Chandelure – Lot of Unova love I suppose.  Likewise, Emboar getting one makes sense since Tepig is a starter in the game.  The rest seems very randomly picked since none of them really have relevance to the picking and just seemed like popular picks.  Surprised that Scolipede is getting one, but not Leavanny since they’re counterparts in Black/White.  Yeah the other four feel like popular picks (maybe Scrafty is the bad team’s leader’s main Pokemon?)
  • Gen 6: Pyroar, Dragalge, Barbaracle, Zygarde, Eternal Flower Floette – Not shocked that Kalos is getting more love for Megas since this is the game that introduced them.  Pyroar and Barbaracle seem random, but I believe could be tied to important trainers in the game since otherwise, two VERY random choices.  Dragalge too (once again, Clawitzer isn’t getting one?).  Zygarde was definitely getting one since it is the main focus of the game of course (although I wonder how you’ll get to it since Zygarde has that weird creation method to get the 50% and the Complete forms (on top of the cells and such).  EF Floette though…that’s an odd one because we know AZ owns it and I can’t imagine what a Mega EF Floette would be like since Florges isn’t getting a Mega.
  • Gen 7: Drampa – The only one from Alola and it’s just random…not sure where a Drampa fits, but sure.  Still cool that a few Pokemon from later generations are getting something.
  • Gen 8: Falinks & Zeraora – Like Drampa, Falinks is random, but I’m sure there’s a reason.  Zeraora might be tied to end-game or an event since Zeraora is a mythical, so there’s that.

Yeah, we got a few to find in Z-A luckily, but I’m curious on designs so that’s exciting, HOWEVER

Mega Raichu X & Mega Raichu Y

It was also announced that Legends Z-A is getting paid DLC in the form of an expansion story titled MEGA DIMENSION to which the trailer begun with Hoopa opening a portal to a lot of Mega Stones flying by before landing on two which ended up showing off two Raichu’s which hams the hell out of X & Y.  Curious to learn more with this whole Dimension thing though, wonder if it’ll connect with anything from Paldea.

HOPEFULLY next time I return to the game, I’ll be talking about all the Megas!

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Legends Z-A July 22, 2025

Surprised I hadn’t done a post on the next Pokemon game in the mainlines (sorta) with a new Legends game returning us to Kalos (and not Unova?).  I was totally surprised that the game will be entirely set in just Lumiose City (which kind of is wild thinking the rest of the Kalos region is shoved aside).  Though I will say it’s finally nice that the rest of the Pokemon that haven’t appeared on a Switch game is FINALLY coming in (Furfrou, Watchog family, and the elemental Pan___ monkeys) mostly are here in this game and yes this is also coming out on the Switch 2 which is being promoted more unsurprisingly.

Though it does leave some interesting thoughts about Pokemon since not a lot has been revealed since the game’s announcement back in 2024.

My first thought was to Eternal Flower Floette mostly because this is the only Pokemon thus far that’s existed but not really existed.  Back on the 3DS games, this Floette, who belongs to AZ (one of the main characters from the game) was coded and finished for the most part, but was unobtainable without hacks  Though I was able to keep one in my Pokemon box for years, Though once Scarlet and Violet came out, it had become a bad egg and well…yeah that’s no fun.  So I hope this game means we’ll get our change to obtain one, even if it does end up becoming Floette’s Mega Evolution (doubt it, but the idea is there)…

Though today during the Pokemon Presents, WE FINALLY got some interesting new news, but the big one is that we are definitely getting new Megas (I wasn’t doubting it especially since the starters we get; Totodile, Chikorita, and Tepig are a thing).  Though we’re two months out from release and they only revealed Dragonite getting a Mega so far.  Not much is known really, still retains the Dragon/Flying type but nothing on abilities, so, hopefully more will be revealed soon.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet! DLC Updates August 28, 2023

pokemonscarvio

So we’re back with more information of the DLC coming up so let’s talk about it yah and catch up before the release of the first part!!!!

Dipplin

dipplin

First for the Teal Mask is this new evolution for Applin, named Dipplin (still a Grass/Dragon).  To me, the evolution changes aren’t as noticeable like the other two (Flapple and Appletun), but there’s something that is connecting to the Gigantamax form it has back in Sword & Shield which has me very curious.  Very cute though and fits the DLC’s festival theme!

Archaludon

archaludon

For the Indigo Disc, we got introduced to Duraludon’s evolution, Archaludon (remaining a Steel/Dragon), but this time it turns into a bridge instead of being based off of a skyscraper.  It’s a strange design, no doubt and while it looks a bit more GUNDAM-like, I think it still fits.  Why now is more of what I’m curious about.  Still impressed however and happy Duraludon got an evolution as it felt like it needed back in Sword/Shield.

Raging Bolt

ragingbolt

Kind of figured after Walking Wake and Iron Leaves that the rest of the trio of legendaries would get paradox forms as in the case of Raging Bolt.  Though what it also confirms is that it’s following a typing pattern to which this is Electric/Dragon which obviously means Entei’s paradox will end up bring Fire/Dragon and that’s pretty cool.  As for Raging Bolt, what a bizarre design choice to change-up Raikou, isn’t it?  Very curious to catch, not gonna lie!

Iron Crown

ironcrown

Likewise, Cobalion now has a Paradox form with Iron Crown being a Steel/Psychic which means that the eventual Terrakion Paradox will be Rock/Psychic which might interest me some.  To be fair though the future designs for the musketeers haven’t really impressed me too much…so I don’t think Terrakion’s will deliver but one could hope.  I still to love Iron Crown’s colors though at least!

Terapagos

babyterapagosterapagosterastal

So we finally get the official announcement to Terapagos and what many thought was its pre-evolution actually ended up being the main Pokemon itself.  We still don’t quite know its typing in this first form, but the form with the fur and the Pokemon types on its shell is its Terastal form to which marks the first unique form for this Terastilization process.  Though unrelated to Terapagos, but it seems Ogerpon will also have a unique Terastal form as well, so we’ll see how it all goes one The Teal Mask releases.

Poltchageist

poltchageist

Most recently, we had a little preview of another new Pokemon for The Teal Mask, and it turned out to be a convergent species of Sinistea called Poltchageist (the naming convention is odd since the name sounds really close to Polteageist).  This matcha tea-inspired Pokemon is a Grass/Ghost (something Pokemon have been loving to do in the last few Generations).

So there’s that with the first of the DLC coming out in a few weeks, I’m looking forward to expand the Scarlet/Violet story and just see what’s up and come pack to Paldea (and Kitakami where the frst DLC takes place).

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The DLC! March 1, 2023

The_Hidden_Treasure_of_Area_Zero_logo

Yup, we’re here and with news about the DLC coming for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet!  Let’s go over some things before jumping in!  Prior to the announcement of the DLC, we did get some news regarding Scarlet & Violet specifically starting with TWO new Paradoxes

walkingwakeironleaves

Here we have Walking Wake and Iron Leaves (technically were heavily hinted at in the Scarlet/Violet Books in the Naranja/Uva Academy Library).  Honestly, it does feel like the original lore of the two Paradoxes kind of contradicts prior lore from the Generations the two come from.  I personally love Walking Wake’s design even though Suicune is now more lizard-like than dog-like in appearance and it’s typing now Water/Dragon.  Virizion though looks more shiny and such, becoming a Grass/Psychic and while not as dramatically different as Walking Wake, I do like the green it has on.  Kind of sucks they weren’t given such a big thing for the games as they right now are Tera Raids for 2 weeks.  I do wonder if we’ll get any information on what these guys are (especially since currently, they lack Dex Entries).

vivillonfancypalgimmighoulroam

Next up, we got some light Scarlet/Violet and Pokemon GO connection starting up between these two.  In GO, you get these postcards and after connecting your Phone to your Switch, you can move the postcards to the Switch games and they will in itself change the Vivillon to your area’s corresponding form for 24 hours.  So mine is the Modern Vivillon:

vivillonmodern

What makes it great is that you can trade postcards to other people who may have the ability to obtain the other 17 forms out there.  The only one that isn’t available is the Pokeball Form (which I’m curious to see how they’ll integrate that into the game).  That said, also after doing the trade, you are given the ability to access a Coin Bag which after activating will give you a half-an-hour to catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul.  Unfortunately, as of the moment of this post, you cannot transfer Gimmighoul over into HOME (which BTW, was totally absent from the Pokemon Day Presentation).

MOVING ONTO THE DLC………

The Teal Mask

900px-The_Teal_Mask_Key_Art

Yeah, not surprised that we’re introduced to our DLC finally, but we do get both like we did for Sword/Shield.  The Teal Mask is set in a new place called Kitakami and the story kind of sounds like Momotaro (the story).  It features two new characters; Kieran and Carmine (who are ALSO oddly enough in the 2nd DLC as well).  Not much else is really known except for the Pokemon revealed here.

Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezindipity

okidogimonkidorifezandipidi

Not much else is really known except for the fact that they are the heroes of the story, not much in typings or abilities either.  I had wondered if we were dealing with new starters considering the evident color differences between this trio.  Who knows, I do like Okidogi the most, but the other two has me curious

Ogerpon

ogerpon

Which leads us to Ogerpon who is actually the DLC’s main face here…I am curious since it’s supposed that it’s going to be the antagonist of the DLC since if we follow the Momotaro story, the 3 animals are helping Momotaro to defeat an Oni and Ogerpon is kind of that.  I am curious of the crystallization going on and what its connection to the Terastilization is all about, but I’m excited not going to lie.

The Indigo Disc

900px-The_Indigo_Disk_Key_Art

We know less about the 2nd half of this DLC, titled The Indigo Disc.  Though we do know that we are being sent out as exchange students to attend this school under the oceans!  I LOVE the artwork to be honest and like I said, two of the characters (the ones in the middle are Carmine and Kieran…I’m very curious to what role they play for the DLCs for sure since they’re connected).  We also see 4 more new characters introduced, but no info has come out bout them.  I see Skeledirge, Meowscarada, and Quaquaval in the art, but I’m not sure what importance that has.  I think the big thing was the Pokemon that’s up-front for this one.

Terapagos

terapagos

Yup, as eluded to the players in the Scarlet/Violet Books, we finally see the Disk Pokemon that is central to the Terastilization process in Paldea itself and my goodness, this is a really awesome looking Pokemon.  I am surprised that it doesn’t have the hexagonal emblem (or hexagons for that matter), but am SUPER intrigued by the fact all the Pokemon typings are across its back.  What role will it play in the DLC and with that Blueberry Academy being a battleground…I wonder what else there’ll be to find.

Honestly I’m excited to see what’s going to be new here…also pre-order bonus will net you some new outfits and a Hisuian Zoroark, oddly enough…so….hopefully time will be OK since we still are waiting to be able to connect with Pokemon HOME here which is coming soon (said early 2023…which is now…but w/e).

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Halloween & Early November! November 6, 2022

pokemonscarvio

We’re finally at the home stretch everyone!  Only about a little over 2 weeks before the games come out and I feel like this will be the last previews we get until the game comes out (or more predominantly, the games get datamined and leaked).  We haven’t gotten much in the way of any more story stuff or new features though, but they did reveal two Pokemon here in this time period, so let’s jump in!

Greavard

greavard

Set before Halloween, we were introduced to our Ghost-type dog, Greavard through a trailer and it’s a pretty neat Pokemon, playful yet lonely because it does against its own will drain the life energy of people that play with them.  Such a sad tale, but this doggo, is so cute!  The candle on top does give me Litwick vibes and people have already pointed that out so it’s no surprise.  If the Pokedex leak is correct, it does evolve once so that’s pretty cool and it kind of ties to a theme to Fidough and another unrevealed Dark-type Pokemon (although, couldn’t it have been Mightyena’s line (oh wait they’re hyenas).  Or even Houndoom’s line? XD Oh well new Pokemon is always a plus!

Gimmighoul

gimmighoulgimmighoulroam

Which leads us to today’s reveal (11/6) with Gimmighoul.  It started when dataminers that focused on Pokemon GO had found the Pokemon on the right and a lot of people deduced that it was that Pokemon from the big trailer a couple weeks back whose antennae were seen in the background.  What it turned out to be in PKMN GO was that at Pokestops, you would spin the emblem and dialogue would happen between Willow and Jacq (professors of course) that would tell you to collect more of those coins.  On top of that, a new webpage opened showing a chest and every 4 hours it would update to fill with more coins until it hit 999.

When that was reached we finally got some trailers and more information.  So for Scarlet & Violet, we’re introduced to Gimmighoul, another pure Ghost-type that acts as the game’s mimic Pokemon (ala Electrode and Amoonguss before it).  In the console games it takes the form of the Chest Form.  While the one that follows you around in GO is the Roaming Form (and it was brought up that in Paldea, the roaming form is too fast to catch and Jacq was surprised to see them around trainers in GO and then brought the news that the two games would be connected in someway to obtain a Roaming Form in some way.  Also, while not explained yet, the coins are also items you find in GO and if it’s a thought in Scarlet & Violet…it means we might be dealing with a collect-a-thon for this Pokemon (which may evolve?)  999 coins though is asking A LOT…but hopefully it won’t be like the Korok seeds from Breath of the Wild and more like Legends: Arceus with the Spiritomb.  Complicated Pokemon, but I’m curious to where it goes.

Also, Roaming Form Gimmighoul is left unknown in type and ability right now…very curious to what that means….

Great Tusk & Iron Treads

Pokemon-Great-Iron-1038x576

A few days later, we get another trailer (after some leaks), though it seemed like an overview of all the information we had, they snuck in some new news in the for of what the Dragon-type Tera hat looks like and the pictures above!  For quite a while from insider resources, it was said that there’d be these special forms of Pokemon that dealt with the Past (Scarlet) and Future (Violet) and we see this in what’s obviously done to Donphan in this case.  The past variant looking like a mammoth while the other, more mechanical and with the LED face too.  For now they’re called Paradox Pokemon, not much else is known about the two other than the fact you start these by getting the Scarlet/Violet Book from Arven (perhaps after the Herba Mystica quest, or post-game?)  What’s stranger is that right now, they’re going by odd names of Great Tusk and Iron Treads (I hope there’s an actual name to em’ beyond that TBH).

So there’s that, as I’ve said…datamine and leaks are bound to come up real quick, so this might be the final news post pre-release so next time it might be delving into the Pokedex that is Paldea…or…maybe one more news post?  Who knows, but I’m terribly excited XD

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Late September, Early October Trailer 5 & 6! October 6, 2022

pokemonscarvio

While we’re finally almost a month away from the exciting release, we got some new information the last few weeks about some Pokemon, Other news about the games is starting to slow down a smidge, but we did get some new information like how we have to craft our TMs (we’re back down to one-time usage sadly) and some cute side things to do with our customization of our character and picnics (which seems to be the bonding mechanic in the game).

So that being out of the way, lets start talking!

Wiglett

wiglett

First was the late September announcement and it came kind of strangely in a trailer (that wasn’t announced to have happened in Japan).  Yup, this is Wiglett a pure Water-type for the game and I know people assumed it was a Paldean take on Diglett, but apparantly from the trailer, it’s actually not even connected to the family.  It’s kind of like how the Pika-clones are.  Honestly, it’s an odd Pokemon and I kind of am surprised it got its own announcement trailer, but we’ll see how this one goes and if it possibly evolves…it’s just there for me.

Farigiraf

farigiraf

Though from today’s trailer, we got a 14-minute trailer and yet only 1 Pokemon was shown off (fully) and that was the fact we got an evolution to Girafarig!  Keeping its Normal/Psychic type, it seems this evolution gains more power in its Special Attack since the tail is now bounded on its head.  Though while not stated, it feels like it’s a level-up evolution which is OK, I was expecting a few to keep things simple.  What’s interesting is that Farigiraf has two new abilites!  Cud Chew makes it so you use your berry twice before it disappears in battle while Armor Tail makes it so priority moves are negated on it.  Interesting new Pokemon and once again, loving the Johto love here recently (like with Wyrdeer and Overqwill in Hisui).

Bellibolt

bellibolt

The next trailer we got (from the 12 & 14th) introduced us to our 3rd Gym Leader, Iono and she’s an Electric-type leader which is pretty cool and she’s a webstreamer which is even better (makes me think of Elesa from Gen 5 for some reason).  Regardless the trailer on the 12th was the introduction and made us try to guess her leading Pokemon (which some thought was the Magnemites in her hair, but those are just accessories).  I still think they might be new variants, because they look different enough to me.

Anyways, October 14th’s trailer was the reveal of her main, Bellibolt which at first glance gave me Beta Politoed vibes, but then things got odd when it was revealed that Bellibolt’s eyes are the yellow dots in the middle and not one the side.  Anyways, Bellibolt is a pure Electric-type with a new ability, Electromorphosis (getting hit powers up an Electric-type move for the next turn).

???

static-assets-upload8398948284772618027

FeY4JeWXoAAKh-o

Now the last bit are Pokemon that were shown off but not delved into.

The Engine / Car / Jelopy Pokemon has been known for some time as its part of the whole Team Star thing.  While the trailers (especially today’s) has been very sneaky and not really going into these battles with them (Mela as the face currently), I wonder how this Pokemon works.  It seems the front and the back engines have faces and tongues, so I wonder if it’s one whole or 2 separate Pokemon.  Definitely a Steel-type though.

Now the mini-map situation is interesting.  As you can see, there’s 3 new Pokemon and a Rookidee here and since we haven’t seen these Pokemon yet, I am really curious to see what they’re all about.  Though this is outside the city where the Grass Gym Leader, Grassius is so interesting.

  • The new mouse Pokemon just from this picture seem interesting because the two have grey patterns on them that are different from one another.  Not sure what typing they are but it doesn’t seem there’s snow around…might be our region rodent?
  • The green parakeet, could be the generation’s bird Pokemon…Normal/Flying…or just Flying in this case?  I am curious to what it evolves into though.
  • The rock mushroom is probably the biggest curiosity for me…definitely a Rock-type, but it looks so…Mario?  I don’t know, but I’m intrigued!

There were two more Pokemon sighted in today’s trailer

  • A Pokemon that could be the pre-evolution to both Ceruledge & Armorouge (see it in the background during the Team Star section)
  • Another Pokemon hiding behind the trainer (and menu) during the picture-taking section, apparantly it’s a Bug-type, but it’s hard to see what it is.

That’s that….One more month y’all!!!

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Recent Happenings + Trailer 4! September 7, 2022

pokemonscarvio

Seems like things are starting to ramp up for the next games in the Pokemon series here.  Though we did have some interesting happenings outside the trailers too!  Let’s talk about it!

  • We finally get to learn about the 3 storylines (Victory Road (basically the normal gym challenge), Path of Legends which sounds like it takes from Sun & Moon’s Totem Pokemon experience and then there’s Starfall Street which to me sounds like battling the “evil” team here with Team Star, which comes off as school bullies more than anything else.
  • Learned of a new gym leader in Brassius, a Grass-type gym leader.

That said, let’s jump into the new Pokemon!!

Cyclizar

cyclizar

So we start back last month with the Pokemon World Championships and they announced this new boy in a short trailer.  Immediately by looks, it definitely has to be connected to the box legendaries; Koraidon and Miraidon, though interestingly enough the name doesn’t fit so I kind of wonder if it’s a pre-evolution to these two.  It is a Dragon/Normal-type (shares with Drampa) and also showed off a new move in Shed Tail (basically U-Turn + Substitute in one move).  Interested to see what its involvement between the legendaries are.

Grafaiai

grafaiai

Last week, we had some teases of a new Pokemon that paints on trees and at the end of the week, we were introduced to Grafaiai in two trailers!  I really like the design of this one and it’s our first Poison/Normal so it marks as an interesting Pokemon.  Though considering it may not evolve, I can’t say it’ll stay long though.  Still, probably one of my favorite monkeys out of Pokemon currently.

Klawf

klawf

Then we have today’s trailer that introduced us to 3 new Pokemon, first starting off is Klawf who is kind of our Kingler this Generation.  Though it is a bit surprising it’s just a Rock-type here and it was shown to be a Titan Pokemon (kind of like Sun & Moon’s Totem or Legends: Arceus’ Alphas.  Kind of curious to see where this one goes too.  It looks like it could evolve, but due to the whole Titan thing, it might not actually.  The other noticeable thing is that Klawf is the first Pokemon to show a new ability, in Anger Shell, one Klawf goes under half HP, it’s Attack/SP. Attack/Speed raises while its defenses drop.

Armarouge

armarouge

So the next two were shown in the trailer, but they didn’t delve into them, the information was put up on the website.  Anyways, I don’t think they’re legendaries, BUT they are version exclusives, Armarouge for Scarlet (obviously).  This one is a Fire/Psychic (shares with Victini, Zen Mode Darmanitan, and Delphox).  Reminds me of a Mega Man character, even more with its signature move, Armor Cannon which is a bit like Close Combat (big power but loses defenses).

Ceruledge

ceruledge

On the other hand, Violet players can obtain Ceruledge, a Fire/Ghost (Chandelure, Alolan Marowak, Blacephelon, and Hisuian Typhlosion all share)  I swear Violet is looking amazing to me and this Pokemon looks epic!  Having the signature move of Bitter Blade, it kind of sounds like Oblivion Wing, strong attack and heals Ceruledge up.  Can’t wait to see where we can get this one.

???

So as part of the Starfall Street arc goes, the bosses of the Team Star packs are boasting their Pokemon and this new “Starmobile” that seems you may have to defeat.  Not sure if they’re Pokemon, but the main art shows the engine has an eye and a tongue, so I kind of find it interesting to point that out, that it may be a Pokemon (plus I wonder if there’s different designs to the Starmobile as each leader would be different (I hope).

Anyways that’s all the Pokemon news here and caught up.  Can’t wait to see more within this month, bout 2 months away from release!!!

Let’s Talk About Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Trailer 3! August 4, 2022

pokemonscarvio

Yup, it’s that time again!  Although it has been quite a while (thought we would’ve gotten some news back in June since that was around E3 time (even if they didn’t have it this year).  Though, quite a few newsworthy things came from the August 3rd direct so I thought I’d quickly go over some of the bigger topics here.

  • The new region is called Paldea and just from the picture of the map, there’s some cloudwork to the Northeast side of the map and if we’re going by Pokemon land to IRL, France is actually the country that is NE so I kind of wonder if Kalos will be somewhat mentioned a lot in Scarlet / Violet.
  • 3 main stories, the first revealed is of course the 8 gym leaders, but this time, you can choose who you battle first.  Grusha is the first gym leader shown off and he’s an Ice-type leader so that’ll be awesome to see.
  • Terastal is the first new mechanic shown off, basically crystallizes the Pokemon to have a stronger attack.  Even some get rare Tera looks, like Flying Pikachu (which is a pre-order bonus).  Now it also showed that Max Raid Battles are back and done a bit better here, though the Pokemon to catch isn’t a Gigantamax, but instead a Terallized Pokemon as it grants stronger attack/STAB.  Also, all Pokemon can have this form.
  • Koraidon & Miraidon are of course rideable Pokemon, looking so far to be replacing Surf and Fly as well as just footing the region itself.  Though I can’t help to feel that you meet them early in the game.

Anyways let’s get to why we’re here and that’s the NEW POKEMON!!!!!

Fidough

fidough

As the idea goes, we get a donut pupper and Fidough is super cute and interestingly a Fairy-type as well.  Kind of wonder where they’ll take the design if they evolve it.  Seems simple enough and the fact it’s a tiny Pokemon is just gonna mean it might be as popular as Yamper was the previous generation.

Cetitan

ceititan

The other brand new Pokemon shown off is this hefty whale, Cetitan!  I feel like this is going to be huge when it evolves and it’s a pure Ice-type right now!  Even then, Grusha owns one of them and uses them in his match.  I’ll be curious to see how this one goes, seems bulky, but slow though.  Also, it kind of reminds me since it’s one of the earlier mons that have been showcased, it’s giving me Drednaw vibes (and that was the final stage (not counting Gigantamax) for it since it only has its pre-evolution, Chewtle).

Paldean Wooper

p-wooper

Yup, the return of regional forms return once again for Paldea, starting with a new Poison/Ground variant for Wooper.  I love the Johto variant and it seems this new one is more dangerous.  The question is will it get a new evolution or stick with a Paldean  Quagsire.  Too soon to say, but I’m excited!  Also, a lot of people have quickly nicknamed it Pooper because of the coloration…I find that hilarious xD.

Yes, I do know the leaks about this game, but I’m still going to get excited for the new designs for sure, I’m curious to see some of the new Pokemon that were teased, but in due time!  I’m excited for this!

We finally got our 2nd trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (now announced to be releasing on November 18th which seems pretty normal for mainline games now to be released then).  We got confimation on the professors, Sada & Turo and a rival in Nemona.  Some interesting things like character creation, multiplayer and some interesting places for sure (Pokemon Centers being outside cities?) and returning Pokemon of course!  Though we’re here for the NEW POKEMON!  Let’s check them out!

Pawmi

pawmi

The first to be revealed, Pawmi is our Electric-type and while I’m not 100% sure what it’s based off of, it’s obviously the Pika-clone (seems pretty early to get too since your rival, Nemona battles you with one at the beginning of the game, so I assume it’ll be one that evolves.  Though it does have the abilities Static or Natural Cure…so this may be interesting.  Cute though, pudgy one ^^

Lechonk

lechonk

Next up is Lechonk (this name is so goood), and it may be one that’s going to have to grow on me.  I mean it’s a pure Normal so that doesn’t really give me high hopes, but it could evolve into something a bit more promising?  Though, I’m curious with the Aroma Veil / Gluttony abilities on it.  Will wait and see lol.

Smoliv

Then we have Smoliv (also quite clever name) and I actually first thought this was a regional variant of Budew for a second because of similar proportions.  Though if I remember right, this is our 2nd Grass/Normal type (after the Sawsbuck line).  This is interesting and I’m curious to see where it goes since it is based off of olives.  Interesting it gets Early Bird as an ability.

Koraidon & Miraidon

Then we get the cover legendaries, Koraidon & Miraidon!  Obviously just from looks and some rumors floating around, Dragon/Fighting & Dragon/Electric…It’s interesting that the motif of the games is the past and the future.  Honestly, I’m also seeing tires in the designs, hell Miraidon has engines that keep it floating which is pretty interesting.  Not much else is known though, even the types haven’t been revealed in full.  Though it has pulled me to think of which Pokemon game I want since I actually like both designs a lot!

Hmm, game is shaping up to be something interesting…shame it’s 5 months away XD

Yup, I was a little surprised, but not really since it fit with the length time of 3 years between generations, but I don’t know this time it felt shorter than normal.  Since we got Sw/Sh and then the 2 DLCS (which probably feel like why the generation was short?), BD/SP and then Legends: Arceus which surrounded the return of 4th Gen.  That said, yup, Generation 9 has been officially announced (it’s been a while, but no big news have come out since then).  From what it looks like, the region is based off of Spain, so I am curious to see what’ll come out of it Pokemon-wise here.  It looks pretty cool and it also feels like it’s taking some ideas that were brought up from the Wild Area in Sw/Sh, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra DLCs, and the open-world aspects of Legends: Arceus which is great, those ideas were really big for last gen so it makes sense to make it better here.  Otherwise, nothing really much came from the initial trailer…well besides the new starters!!!

Sprigatito

sprigatito

Of course they didn’t shake the line-up so of course it’s the classic, Grass, Fire, Water starters.  Sprigatito though seems to be more known as the Weed Cat currently (probably due to the leaf pattern on its face and that it’s all green!  I think it’s perfectly cute and curious to see where it goes.

Fuecoco

fuecoco

An apple/dino that’s a Fire-type?  Interesting decision, and I already see the Spanish influence in the names mostly between this and Sprigatito.  Also curious to see where this line goes since we have Feraligatr, so I wonder where Fuecoco goes in its evolutions.

Quaxly

quaxly

Last, but not least, we have the Water starter in Quaxly and it just reminds me of Donald Duck with a cool hat on!  Or like the lost brother between Huey, Dewey, and Louie.  Not quite sure where I stand with Quaxly currently, I have more interest in the other two starters, but I suppose it’s kind of cute!

That’s pretty much all the information right now, was hoping for something round E3 (but that got cancelled), so I hope there’s still some new info soon, maybe Corocoro?
