  • Make sure that your watch is connected to the phone.
  • Make sure that you are signed into a Google Account on your phone.
  • Make sure that the watch and phone are connected via Bluetooth.

Fix issues with messages

If you can’t send messages on your watches running Wear OS, try these steps:

Step 1: Check that your watch is paired with an Android device

Make sure that your watch is paired with an Android device. If your watch is paired with an iPhone, you can’t send chat messages.

Step 2: Check that your watch and phone are connected

  • Make sure that your watch and Android device are close to each other and paired through Bluetooth.
    • To check your connection, from your watch's settings, use Find My Phone. If your phone rings, it means that you have a good connection.
  • If your phone and paired Android device won’t connect, repair the devices.

Step 3: Check Gemini or Google Assistant

Make sure that Gemini or Google Assistant are set up on your watch.

  1. Ask a question about the weather.
  2. If you don't get an answer, learn how to set up Gemini or Google Assistant.

Step 4: Check the messaging app on your phone or tablet

On your paired Android phone or tablet, confirm that you:

  1. Have the latest version of your messaging app.
  2. Are signed in to the app and can send messages within the app.
Tip: Currently, Gemini supports sending messages through WhatsApp or text messages.

Step 5: Check the other person’s messaging app

On your paired Android phone or tablet:

  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Search the person that you want to message and tap their name.
  3. In their contact details, check if they have the messaging app.
    • If the person has the messaging app, at the top of the contact screen, tap the star. If the contact is already starred, try to unstar and re-star it.
