About us
Tampa General is a private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million. As one of the largest hospitals in Florida, Tampa General is licensed for 982 beds, and with over 15,000 team members, is one of the region’s largest employers. Consistently recognized for world-class care, Tampa General Hospital is ranked as the #1 hospital in Tampa Bay by U.S. News & World Report for 2024-25 and is nationally ranked as among the top 50 hospitals in the nation in eight specialties. Additionally, Tampa General was ranked as “high performing,” or among the top 10% of hospitals in the nation, in five more specialties along with 12 procedures and conditions. TGH partners with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine to pioneer breakthrough treatments, conduct game-changing clinical research and train the next generation of health care professionals. TGH is the region's only academic health system, having been affiliated with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine since the school was created in the early 1970s. TGH is the area’s only Level I trauma center and one of two ABA-verified Adult & Pediatric burn centers in Florida. With five medical helicopters, we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to the leading organ transplant center in the country, having performed more than 14,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985. Tampa General Hospital is committed to serving all residents of West Central Florida. We provide comprehensive health services, ranging from wellness and primary care to the most complex specialty care and post-acute services.

Our first Leadership Forum of the new year set the tone for 2026, with a clear focus on how innovation, technology, and teamwork will continue to shape the future of care at TGH. Leaders highlighted how AI is already making a meaningful impact, including the use of DAX Copilot in more than 300,000 patient visits, helping reduce documentation time for physicians and nurses and creating more space for patient-centered care. The conversation also emphasized our commitment to protecting patient information and ensuring every AI tool is carefully vetted before it is put into practice. A broader discussion on patient safety and experience highlighted early progress tied to our new nursing structure, along with powerful frontline perspectives from orthopedic nurses who shared how consistency, teamwork, and attention to detail are improving care every day. We also had some fun at the forum, with President & CEO, John D. Couris, manning a slingshot and launching t-shirts into the crowd to build excitement for Innovation Week next month! The forum closed with a forward-looking focus on fostering bold ideas, collaboration, and continuous improvement as we move through the year ahead. #WeAreTGH

Yesterday, we were proud to host "The Untold Journey: Human Trafficking Awareness Symposium," in partnership with the Declare No More Foundation, as part of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, bringing the community together to share practical tools to help identify, respond to and prevent human trafficking. With Tampa Bay and Florida among the areas most impacted by trafficking, the discussion underscored the critical role health care settings play, as many victims first seek help in medical environments. Special thanks to our partners and panelists who helped make this event so impactful, including John D. Couris, Tami Kent, Col. Nikki Bosley, Connie A. Rose, Kim F., Corp. Alan Wilkett, and Tony Venezia. Through collaboration, education and shared experience, we’re continuing important conversations aimed at protecting and supporting our community. #WeAreTGH #HumanTraffickingAwareness https://lnkd.in/er74D6WJ

The FDA has lowered the age at which infants can receive certain cochlear implants, opening the door for earlier intervention and better long-term outcomes for children with hearing loss.
