Eurasia

Energy system of Eurasia

The countries of the Caspian region and Russia are rich in energy resources. However, their energy sectors face a wide range of pressures, intensified by Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Starting points vary, but the region as a whole has yet to deploy clean energy at scale. Eurasian countries remain very reliant on fossil fuels, especially for industry, which accounts for 40% of GDP. Boosting efficiency and accelerating clean energy transitions could therefore produce major benefits for the region, improving energy security and affordability while driving down greenhouse gas emissions.
